Continuing Education (CE) for Clinical Professionals
My work exists to help counselors and helping professionals understand the clinical realities of two-home and non-biological family systems, including stepfamilies, adoption, foster care, and complex blended family structures.
These family systems form, attach, and regulate differently than first-family systems. When clinicians are not specifically trained in how these systems function, it becomes easy to misread behavior, reinforce loyalty conflicts, and unintentionally step into transference, countertransference, and projection. These clinical risks are avoidable when professionals are grounded in a true contemporary family systems framework.
If you are a “why” clinician, here is the reason this matters.
Chronic relational stress in childhood can alter emotional and neurological development. Epigenetic research shows that prolonged stress exposure changes how children adapt, regulate, and attach. The good news is that stress can be reduced when children and families are supported with developmentally and systemically appropriate clinical interventions. The difficult reality is that most professional training programs do not adequately prepare counselors to work with families that include non-biological caregivers, multiple households, and divided family loyalties.
This gap leaves many professionals unprepared to recognize the unique challenges faced by children of divorce, stepfamilies, adoptive families, foster families, and high-conflict co-parenting systems. Without specialized training, clinicians may miss the depth of these wounds and the long-term relational impact they can carry.
I specialize in professional training, consultation, and supervision for counselors and helping professionals who work with:
children of divorce
co-parenting and parallel parenting systems
stepfamilies and blended families
adoption and foster care families
high-conflict and higher-level-of-care family presentations
I provide team training and continuing education in Contemporary Family Systems so professionals can accurately assess two-home family dynamics, understand loyalty and attachment disruptions, and apply interventions that reduce risk and improve outcomes for children and families.
I offer on-site, full-day intensive trainings for counseling teams and professional organizations. These trainings provide practical clinical theory, assessment tools, and real-world interventions designed specifically for contemporary family systems.
When families are supported by professionals trained in two-home family systems, hidden wounds are brought into the open, relational patterns become understandable, and healing becomes possible. Relationships can change. Attachment can be rebuilt. Love and stability can replace fear, confusion, and abandonment as the foundation for family life.
